Take Flight: An Inclusive Communications Career Exploration is an externship program designed for college students interested in the practice of marketing and communications in the Twin Cities area. We seek to foster a diverse and vibrant workforce representative of the varying interests, backgrounds, perspectives and lived experiences that make up our country.


What students will experience

What students will experience

  • Students are immersed in a real-world look at the communications and PR agency profession through a direct-access learning program led by six leading Twin Cities PR agencies.
  • Students will be welcomed into a network of professionals and mentors who can help connect them with future internship opportunities in the Twin Cities.
  • The entire program will be virtual in 2024-25.
  • Students should plan to commit to participating in two 90-minute virtual workshops a month at noon Central on Fridays from September 2024 to April 2025.
  • Each student will receive a $1,000 stipend for full participation.

Selection criteria

  • Open to students entering 300- and 400-level classes or who are within approximately two years of graduating.
  • All applicants will complete a short online form and video submission stating why they want to explore the communications agency world.
  • All applications will be reviewed by a program governing committee of employees from participating agencies.
